summer school

september 6th-10th, 2021

The Severe Summer School was hosted by Dublin City University in September 2021 and included 10 student representatives from each partner institution (60 students in total)

The Summer School enabled students to participate in an immersive programme of international, cross-disciplinary engagement, facilitating the cross-fertilization of ideas and creating new opportunities for social enterprise, entrepreneurship and academic engagement amongst students.

Over the course of one week participants took part in many workshops and webinars including:

· Design Thinking;

· Collaboration and group-working skills;

· Hands-on experience in solving real life challenges;

· Intercultural Leadership;

· Ideation;

· Pitching;

· Storytelling;

· Digital technology and innovation;

· Sustainable Finance;

· Project management.

What is more, students had the opportunity to hear from different social enterprises and discussed social issues and needs in different European cities as well as various approaches to tackle them.

At the end of the Summer School students created nine groups that will:

· tackle a social challenge common to their communities,

· develop their ideas/projects through remote working using digital tools,

· deliver impact in all six partner cities.

They will be focusing on the following areas:

· Environment;

· Health;

· Disability and Accessibility;

· Food Waste;

· Social Justice;

· Circular Economy;

· Homelessness;

· Fast Fashion;

· Social Finance Options.

In 2022 all groups will be working remotely, transnationally and digitally to develop their project into a potential social business using the Virtual Platform Glocal and the Handbook of Remote Working for Social Innovators

Students will also be recording the progress of their projects through video diaries. All groups will be supported, monitored and mentored by the partner institutions to effectively apply their vision for positive change within their communities.

In April 2022 all groups will meet in Montpellier Business School to participate in the Winter School where they will be given the opportunity to showcase their progress and initial activities.
