PIN is a consortium company with a majority non-profit public participation. It was established as an association in 1992 and on 1999 it became a limited liability consortium company (S.c.r.l.).

PIN integrates all the essential structures and services to better support the activities of its 3 areas. The first area is Research and services for companies. The second area is Higher education: it structures and organizes courses to meet the requests of the market. The last is the University: PIN has been managing the University Campus, a branch of the University of Florence, for over 20 years.

PFU is very engaged with teaching  and research processes, offering innovative degrees such as the Open Bachelor’s Degree Programme, Global Studies, Bioinformatics.

It also has Internship agreements with more than 1.000 companies.

It is a very international University: 44% of master’s and doctoral students are international; 46% of graduates have studied abroad; 27% of teaching staff are international and it was the 1st Spanish University in the international outlook (Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, 2021)
